Real Freedom

July 4th commemorates the day in 1776 that our nation declared itself to be an independent nation. On that date, a number of our leading citizens signed what is known as the Declaration of Independence. July Fourth is Independence Day and we celebrate the tremendous freedom we enjoy and proudly display the American flag!

While July 4th is not a religious holiday, it is a time to reflect on God’s goodness to us as a nation. While we look with gratitude to the past, may we also look in faith to the future. Psalm 33:12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he chose for his inheritance.”

If we want true and eternal freedom we need to commit our lives to God and His will. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, “For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,...” Jesus died to pay the price for our sins. We are washed clean and can stand righteous before God.

The American flag represents freedom for our country. Jesus represents freedom for each of us, individually. Galatians 5:1, “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”

Let freedom ring this July 4th! Let the freedom Jesus gives ring out in our hearts today!
