Ripple Effects

Our “Sleep In Heavenly Peace” mission group is growing and making lots of beds! To date (Jan-May) they’ve had 210 volunteers who have contributed 1,098 hours of work to SHP. Tommy Underwood, who oversees SHP, shared his reflections of the latest bed build. “It was an amazing day from start to finish. To see groups of strangers come together and work toward a common goal warms my heart and because of you another 30 kids will soon be sleeping in their own bed. The SHP core team are a group of guys and gals, nothing short of amazing. They show up early, stay late, work their fingers to the bone, every time!”

Mattress Firm partnered with them, helping with financial support, the donation of mattresses for the beds, breakfast and drinks! The work ethic their team brought was simply amazing. Their folks showed up and showed off! Any task was done with a smile on their face! Lowes partnered with SHP and the support they give goes above and beyond anything we could expect! They support us every day and then on build day they show up with volunteers to build beds and a huge cooler of cold beverages!

C-Street Mexican Grill provided an awesome lunch that was perfect for a crowd! The ladies at the NC Sorosis Night Department provided drinks and snacks. Pat Sullivan and Dave Stewart shot tons of video! WECT, WWAY and 90.5 Life radio provided news coverage of this event! Acts 20:35, “In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

This ripple effect was shown best by a lady walking down the sidewalk looking for the "person in charge". She found Tommy, opened her purse, thanked them for what they were doing, and handed him all the cash that she had. She was moved to give more than she could probably afford and told him they are making a difference. “Do a deed of simple kindness, Though its end you may not see; It may reach, like widening ripples, Down a long eternity.” —Norris
