Cory Goes to Camp

I had never seen Cory at camp so I asked him if it was his first time as a counselor and what made him come to camp? Quickly, he responded, “my wife!” I started laughing and that was the beginning of a lot of laughs! He told me he was serious and I asked if I could share and he said, absolutely. He went on to tell me she signed him up and he knew she was kidding and she said no. So he was at camp with his two young daughters! It was not a joke!

One night there was a blowing rain that blew right into Cory’s bunk. He had a tarp to put over him that reeked of chemicals. He figured he would die of chemicals or drown. He told me this while at crafts where one of the boys was holding a glass jar. He said if it breaks in the cabin I will be sure to step on it and get a bad cut! Then he told me what his wife told him: the closer you get to the Lord, the more the devil will pursue you. His next words were, “He is!” He did mention she was having a wonderful week, in the quiet with the air turned to 68!

Cory was a counselor for the 2nd to 5th grade boys. At crafts they had made cross necklaces and he was blown away that they wore them. Their prayer requests were for family and friends. He said if you knew my background, why am I doing this? I think that is how many of us feel! Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Cory went and God used him in a mighty way!

On Wednesday, I asked Cory if he was coming back next year. He stayed quiet for a long time so I asked, “if your wife signs you up!?” He laughed and said, “yes, if my wife signs me up!” Amanda, sign him up!
